Butter chicken recipe was invented in 1950 by Kundan Lal Gujral, a chef of the famous restaurant Moti Mahal in Delhi, the capital of India. After Independence, he came to Delhi and opened Moti Mahal restaurant with two partners. Back in earlier times, the unsold leftovers tandoori chicken couldn't be stored in the fridge and thrown in the pot. But One day Kundan Lal Gujral thought to use the leftovers tandoori chicken and make a new recipe, and then he added tomatoes, butter, and some masalas to make a gravy then he invented the butter chicken recipe through added this gravy on leftovers tandoori chicken. After some time a newly invented dish becomes a best-demanded dish in the Moti Mahal restaurant, and then it's famous across the world. How to make butter chicken recipe at home?


Step1: Mix the chicken using below ingredients and put it for a half-hour


Ingredients Of Butter Chicken


  • 1kg row chicken
  • 2tbsp Garlic -Ginger Paste
  • 100gm curd
  • 1tbsp chilli powder as per taste
  • 1tbsp salt as per taste

Step2: Prepare the butter chicken gravy using ingredients 


Ingredients Of Butter Chicken Gravy 


  • Add 1 and a half tbsp oil with 10 to 20 gm butter in the Kadai
  • Add spices like clove, cinnamon
  • Add 1 tbsp Garlic -Ginger Paste
  • Add 4 to 5 onions cuts and fry up to redness
  • Add 1tbsp Turmeric powder
  • Add 1tbsp chilli powder as per taste
  • Add 1tbsp salt as per taste
  • Add 2-3 tomatoes cuts 
  • Add 100gm Kaju(cashew)

Step3: Now all things in the mixture for making gravy 


Step 4:  Now cook the chicken with adding below ingredients


  • Add 1 and a half tbsp oil with 10 to 20 gm butter in the Kadai
  • Now add all chicken in the Kadai and cook up to 20-30 min then close the Kadai for 5-10 min.
  • Now open the Kadai and check the redness of chicken then add whole gravy. Mix properly then close it for 5-6 min in light heat.
  • Now open and add homemade milk cream in it.
  • Now add garam masala for more taste improvement.
  • Add coriander leaves and serve with basmati rice or butter roti
