Sabara Srikhetra Jagannath Temple History
This temple is situated in Koraput of Odisha and only 1km far from the town area, and it was built in 1972 and from this every year celebrated the holy rath yatra at this temple. The tribal priests of the village performed all the divine rituals of Lord Jagannath.
During the Rath Yatra the tribal villager performed the Chhera Pahanra and this person is known as King, and devotees pull the chariot all the way to the Gundicha Temple. The Rath Yatra carries a deep cultural connection with the Saura tribal community who consider Lord Jagannath as their supreme divine force. Every year, large numbers of pilgrims and visitors travel to witness the spiritual atmosphere and scenic surroundings of the temple. This small story behind this temple and you need to visit this temple.
My Experience at Koraput Sabara Srikhetra Jagannath Temple
My visit to the Sabara Srikhetra Jagannath Temple was a peaceful and memorable experience. The entire temple is beautifully constructed with marble stone, and the intricate designs on the walls and pillars reflect great craftsmanship. Inside the main complex, I saw shrines dedicated to different forms of Lord Jagannath, which made me feel the deep spiritual connection that people here share with the deity.
One of the most fascinating parts of the temple is the underground section. I walked down the steps and entered a serene hall where idols of many Hindu gods are placed together. The atmosphere was calm, and I took my time to offer prayers and have darshan of each deity. This part of the temple felt truly special and added a unique charm to the visit.
There is also a facility for devotees to enjoy Mahaprasad in the afternoon. Traditional Odia dishes are served here as part of the sacred meal, and many visitors say it is a must-try experience. Unfortunately, I could not stay for the Mahaprasad as I had to continue my journey to other nearby tourist places, but I hope to come back again and experience it next time.
