Mahanadi River- Beautiful Hirakud Dam Reservoir

Hirakud Dam Reservoir

Mahanadi river is one of the largest rivers of India and its 900 km longest. It starts from Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh, near the village of Sihawa and it meets the bay of Bengal at Puri district by dividing into streams Kuakhai, Devi and Surua . But Mahanadi proper enters the sea through several channels near Paradeep at False Point, Jagatsinghpur.

Mahanadi river is known as Lifeline of Eastern India because its main water source is mainly Chhattisgarh and Odisha, as it sustains agriculture, fisheries, and hydroelectric power generation. I felt one time must see this largest river after watching several videos on youtube of Mahanadi tour that are captured at Cuttack and Sambalpur city through good travel youtubers, and after sometime my dream comes true during my train journey on Gandhidham Puri Superfast Express that time I watched this river as from of Hirakud Dam Reservoir or Mahanadi River Reservoir at between Hirakud railway station to Sambalpur Junction railway station route in Indian eastern state Odisha.

Hirakud Dam Reservoir

Hirakud is located in Sambalpur district and here is situated the world's longest dam which is known asHirakud dam and its on Mahanadi river. Dam length is around 25.79 km and behind the dam you can see Hirakud Reservoir which is 55 km long. I captured this view for you during my train journey, and here you can see beautiful hills and a fully green environment on the route and this rail route known as the East Coast Railway route. On this route you can see two railway bridges on Mahanadi, one is P. C. Bridge that comes after Hirakud Railway station and after that Mahanadi Bridge comes before Sambalpur Junction railway station and that is approx 2 km long.
